As a state, we are bracing to hit a sobering milestone this week—10,000 South Carolinians will have died due to COVID-19. While statistics are useful to measure data, there is no statistic for grief in a milestone for those who have lost family members and loved ones. As South Carolinians, we remember those who are no longer with us and express sympathy to the families who have lost loved ones.
On the day we reach this number of deaths, DHEC has planned the following:
- DHEC Director Edward Simmer issued a statement on South Carolina surpassing 10,000 COVID-related deaths.
- DHEC will display a memorial graphic to honor those lost on digital billboards across the state and its social media platforms.
- DHEC will have a moment of silence once an hour from 1-6 p.m. on every Cumulus station in all 4 markets (Florence, Myrtle Beach, Charleston, Columbia). In addition to the moment of silence, the PSA will promote vaccinations.
